I'm going to get rose colored glasses. And I'm going to look at the world through them, and think happy thoughts. 8)

We're working our way through a new sermons series called "How to Be Rich" at our work meetings. (Yes, I work at a christian based business, and they show us DVDs of sermons series' and stuff. And yes, I'm about the only person who appears to enjoy this.) I was probably the only person who felt like nodding when the preacher asked "Do you feel rich?"

I feel rich because I can go into town and buy things just because I want them, not because I need them. I feel rich because I never balance my checkbook and it doesn't catch up with me (yet ;)). When I drive down the road with my siblings in the car and the windows rolled down (and the music up loud), I feel rich. When I wake up on my day off and look out the window and see a blanket of fresh snow on the ground, I feel rich. I talk to my sister sometimes and she's not really listening to me because she's so in love she can't think straight. And I feel rich because she's lucky and we're lucky. I'm curled up right now on my bed with my lil laptop Mooch and my fuzzy red blankie. Did I mention that I feel rich?

I feel like a Hallmark card today. I must be getting feverish. ;)

I thought I'd just take a stab at it.

It's been so long since I've blogged. And Xanga has added so much stuff I hardly recognize it anymore. And life is such a ride sometimes. I should blog so I remember, even if none of you remember.

Is anybody still there?

A somewhat grizzled man came into Success Vision with an older woman. He was complaining about the fact that the power had gone out and we were unable to make glasses the same day.

"We drive a truck, y'know, and we can't hang around long!" He motioned at the shrivelled little woman beside him. Her eyes were at half mast and one seemed to be looking a different direction than the other. She blinked uncomprehendingly at him, and then at Wes. The man went on, "Do you want her driving the rig with no glasses?"
I didn't say what I thought: "Do we want her driving a huge rig at all??" Clear the roads, people.

Another guy came in today, wearing glasses the size of dessert plates. "I thought since I was getting bifocals, they'd need to be big," he explained. He wanted new lenses in the frames, and Nina and I exchanged glances or horror. She took them in the back to adjust the fit, and as we discussed their ugliness, I heard a crack. Instant horror. The hideous glasses were broken. That meant a free replacement, so we helped him pick out new ones. Normal sized ones.
"Since I'm getting new glasses, I want some that make me look sexy. Do these make me look sexy?"
Is it professional to tell a customer they look sexy in their glasses? I looked at him. Scruffy face, long-ish hair, dirty shirt and smudged hat. Sorry, sir, but glasses don't work miracles.
Nina and I ignored the comment and fitted him with glasses that looked considerably better than the huge ones.

I'm liking my new job. I think I'm going to love it once I'm trained and doing.

God is laughing at me

So, I got a job today. With Success Vision, the same place where I recently bought my new glasses. There's something ironic about working at a place like that when I despised glasses for so many years. But it's an apprentice/sales assistant job, and in three years I'll be a certified optician. I'm really happy with it because it's a good job with a good future. However, it's going to be a challenge. Dr. Presley told me to expect to feel totally overwhelmed for the first two weeks. I'm s-scared.

The Big Boss, Dr. Presley, gave me the interview today and hired me on the spot. I think it might have helped that he's a homeschooling dad with six kids, who used to be involved in youth ministry.  He was very friendly and we had a good time talking. My supervisor is also a Christian, which is great.

The downside is I'll be working six days a week. I'm gonna be busy. But they're very flexible and when I need Saturdays off, all I have to do is email and ask for up to two a month. So, that's happy.

Friend: ..both your sisters are dating now? What's that like? :P

Me:  It's like being surrounded by a massive sea of some sweet sticky substance. You don't want to move for fear of getting stickied. Or stuck.

Friend:  okaaaaaaaayyy. well, I've never heard it put like that before! :P haha. You're very creative. ;)
